The cooperation protocol signed on March 20 under the leadership of Governor and Deputy Mayor Ekrem Canalp was put into practice.

Batman Municipality transforms food waste into food thanks to the food production project initiated to meet the nutritional needs of stray animals and prevent food waste.

Located on 170 decares of land, Turkey's most comprehensive animal care facility has special areas not only for stray dogs, but also for old, injured or abandoned single-hoofed animals (such as horses, donkeys, mules).

Batman Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate regularly collects waste left over from daily food production but still consumable in public institutions, tradesmen's chambers and non-governmental organizations.

Thanks to the food production machine used to feed the animals in the modern and sustainable Animal Care and Life Center, food scraps collected from public institutions, student dormitories, military facilities, restaurants and soup kitchens are transformed into hygienic and nutritious food through a special process.

Governor and Deputy Mayor Ekrem Canalp, the pioneer of the project, stated that the model is an exemplary project that can set an example not only for Batman, but for all of Turkey: \"Our Animal Care and Life Center is a structure that will be an example for Turkey not only physically but also in terms of vision. Thanks to our food recycling machine, we prevent food waste and provide healthy food to our stray animal friends. With the project we have realized, we have produced a sustainable solution to the problem of feeding stray animals with the cooperation of civil society and tradesmen.\"

Noting that as of March 20, 2025, all animals living on the streets throughout Batman were collected and taken under protection in the center, the Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate pointed out that the living conditions of animals were improved in the Animal Care and Life Center and an important step was taken in terms of the safety of citizens in the city.

Batman Municipality has demonstrated a concrete example of its social municipalism approach to people, the environment and animals, and has received tangible support from Batman citizens.
