With the "Food Production Project" implemented within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed on March 20 under the leadership of Batman Governor and Deputy Mayor Ekrem Canalp, both food waste is prevented and the nutritional needs of stray animals are met.

Thanks to the project initiated by Batman Municipality, food leftovers collected from public institutions, student dormitories, restaurants, military facilities and soup kitchens are transformed into hygienic and nutritious food through special processes. The food is produced at the Animal Care and Life Center, one of the most comprehensive animal care facilities in Turkey, built on 170 decares of land.

The facility houses not only stray dogs but also special areas for old, injured or abandoned single-hoofed animals such as horses, donkeys and mules. In coordination with the Directorate of Veterinary Affairs, food scraps are regularly collected from tradesmen's chambers, public institutions and non-governmental organizations across the city.

Drawing attention to the sustainable and environmentalist aspect of the project, Governor Ekrem Canalp said, "This model is an example not only for Batman but for the whole of Turkey. We both prevent waste and offer a healthy life for our stray friends."

Municipality officials emphasized that as of March 20, 2025, all animals living on the streets were collected and taken to the center, both improving the living conditions of animals and contributing to urban security.

Batman Municipality has demonstrated a strong example of social municipalism with its environment, human and animal-friendly approach, while the people of Batman have also embraced and supported the project.
